The “chain effect” of EDI does not stop. Italian companies continue to choose this technology to evolve processes and automate data exchange in B2B, often requiring suppliers to adopt this solution as well.

Sabelt, a leading automotive company in the production of sports seats, seat belts, and accessories for high-end and racing cars, has implemented EDI exchange with Intesa, a Kyndryl Company, to manage the translation of inbound and outbound B2B files. In a period of significant growth for the company, it became essential for Sabelt to reduce inefficiencies in manual processes and improve collaboration with partners and regulatory compliance.

Giulio Calcio Gaudino, IT Application Manager at Sabelt, recently shared the company’s experience with Digital4Executive. “Before EDI, most of the exchange activities with partners were done manually, involving repetitive and parallel tasks. The primary need was to optimize processes, save time, and make inbound and outbound operations more efficient. Furthermore, with the company’s growth and the increase in transaction volumes, it was necessary to implement a solution that was easily scalable to manage an ever-increasing workload.”

Sabelt implemented a web-based EDI solution, which automatically “fetches” data from the company’s information system, translates it into a “common language” readable by business partners, and transmits it via EDI, FTP, or SFTP channels. The solution features a web interface and a dashboard that allows viewing the status of incoming and outgoing documents at any time. Additionally, all documents with detected errors are marked as “Incorrect,” and an email is sent to one or more predefined addresses, indicating the error.

Giulio Calcio Gaudino explains the benefits derived from the implementation: “To evaluate the effectiveness of the investment, the main KPIs were processing times and error rates. Overall, we have achieved higher delivery performance with customers because the percentage of accurate information we send today is higher than in the past: we make fewer errors because the system flags them. This allows us to identify and correct the problem before the customer notices, potentially avoiding charges for incorrect data reception. There was thus a tangible saving, along with an improvement in overall customer satisfaction.”

The choice of Intesa as a provider was mainly driven by the company’s experience with this type of technology: “Sabelt’s approach to Intesa was guided by reputation and reliability: Intesa has a solid reputation in the EDI sector, with proven experience and a track record of success in implementing data exchange solutions for companies of various sizes and sectors. Their expertise was a significant factor in Sabelt’s decision.”

Sabelt’s growth prospects were also considered in adopting the EDI solution. “Intesa offers direct and available support, and all our contacts speak Italian and English, which greatly facilitates implementations. The solution provided by Intesa was designed to be highly scalable and adaptable to Sabelt’s specific needs. The ability to expand and grow alongside the company was deemed crucial, especially given the future growth prospects. Intesa provided a high level of support and customer service, offering dedicated resources for implementation, training, and ongoing post-adoption support.”

Looking ahead, “There’s still work to be done,” concludes Giulio Calcio Gaudino. “We need to involve various stakeholders, both suppliers and customers, and we want to achieve an even higher level of digitization and automation for data exchange. Our efforts will be directed towards developing and implementing new functionalities or additional services, such as invoicing to the SDI (Sistema di Interscambio), replacing and integrating old software, and embracing new technologies like artificial intelligence or the Internet of Things.”

In conclusion, Sabelt’s implementation of EDI marked a decisive step towards process optimization. The choice of Intesa as a partner proved strategic, ensuring not only operational efficiency but also a solid foundation for future expansions and innovations. With future projects aimed at greater digitization and the adoption of emerging technologies, Sabelt demonstrates a constant commitment to excellence and adaptation to market challenges.
