A virtuous example is Grandinetti srl, whose digital transformation project was initiated at the request of a customer and from there evolved and expanded. Founded in the Turin area at the end of the 1980s, Grandinetti supplies metal components and thermal protection systems, particularly to the automotive sector. “Grandinetti met Intesa at the end of 2010 precisely because a mutual customer requested the implementation of EDI, which we were not familiar with,” said Vincenzino Grandinetti, General Manager of the company, in a recent interview with Digital4Executive. “The adoption of EDI has significantly facilitated our work, allowing us to optimize the logistics department’s timelines.”
The “direct” EDI integration with the partner represented a positive experience for Grandinetti, which the company then wanted to replicate with other customers and prepare for the future by adopting Intesa’s EDI portal. “We wanted to replicate the first customer’s experience but also ensure that in the future we wouldn’t have to ‘start over.’ The initial cost was higher, also because we had to upgrade the entire IT system, but this means spending less money in the future and not always starting from scratch.” Intesa’s B2B portal allows document exchanges to be consolidated within a single interface, both with partners already using EDI and with those who prefer manual data entry or other formats. “We didn’t want to have 2 or 3 exchange systems but a single platform so our people could perform a single query to extract all the data,” Grandinetti continues. “Today, we have a single interface with Intesa’s channel that translates all incoming files automatically into the ERP.”
The benefits of this implementation, according to Vincenzino Grandinetti, are “incalculable.” “We always need an operator to verify the data entered by the customer and intervene if necessary, but the benefit is immeasurable both in terms of costs and hours worked. Considering the reduction of human errors and the fact that we always deliver on the correct day to the customer, I believe the benefit is priceless.” In addition to punctuality and precision in deliveries, the implemented solution provides customers with real-time visibility of production and delivery times.
